Country Week underway
East Gippsland Men’s & Ladies teams are both in Division 2 for this years Country Week.
On Monday 1st October @ Keysborough GC
The men played two matches but were defeated in both. They lost Round 1 v Murray Darling 4/3 and in Round 2 to West Gippsland 5/2.
The ladies had one match today against Dalhousie and won 5/2.
Day Two Results - matches played @ Cranbourne GC
Ladies defeated South Gippsland 4/3 in the morning but lost in the afternoon to South Western 3/4
Men defeated Golf Central (Bendigo) 4/3 and had the bye in the afternoon.
With one match to go, the Ladies find themselves tied in 2nd place with a realistic chance of finishing on top if they can have a big win over bottom placed Western and hope Dalhousie can steal a few games from South Western.
The men are currently in last place but only one game off third - All the teams are evenly matched so relegation could come down to an individual game but will avoid relegation if they can win their match over third placed North Eastern.
Day Three Results -Matches played at Patterson River
An extremely exciting day for both our teams and for different reasons.
The men managed to avoid relegation by half a match when they lost 4/3 to North Eastern. Thankfully, Golf Central was up against eventual Division winners in Murray Darling and lost 5 1/2 to 1 1/2 with them losing two of the games 1 down.
The Ladies side however won their Division and will be promoted to Division One next year. The ladies team held off Western to win 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 and then await the result of the South Western v Dalhousie match. Dalhousie duly won but missed out on top stop by one match.
Well done and congratulations to all players, caddies and officials who represented East Gippsland in Country Week.
